Off Ice Officials training

Wes Pfarner will be in Los Alamos to train our off ice officials.  We need to know who would like to/needs to attend the training so that we can make sure we have enough participation to have Wes come up to Los Alamos.

This training is requiered for those who will be off ice officials (timekeepers, scorekeepers, etc.)

If you have already taken the class, you will not need to attend unless you would like a refresher.

Wes Pfarner is coming to us from Albuquerque, he has been league statistician for our high school league and is the statistician for the UNM Lobo Hockey team.

Please send an email to pastpresident@lahockey.org if you plan to attend so that we can make sure that we have enough interest to hold this training.

Thanks,
Renee

Gear Rental

It is that time of year again--hockey time!  LAHA will be hosting two gear rental and fitting sessions prior to the 2014-2015 season:

  • Sunday, October 20, 3:00 pm- 4:00 pm
  • Saturday, October 26, 10:00am - 12:00pm

Both sessions will be held at the following location:

Longview Self Storage (click for map)

105 Longview Dr

White Rock

These sessions are perfect for:

  • renting gear for this season
  • returning gear from the summer or last season
  • all other fitting needs

Note:

If you rented equipment in the summer or fall and wish to re-rent, you do not need to attend a rental session if it still fits. Instead, use the online registration system to add this season’s equipment rental to your account. If you need to exchange any equipment you are re-renting, please come to one of these two sessions and our coaches will fit you with new gear.

Please register online for both the appropriate team program and the equipment rental before coming to the rental gear session! Register here: http://lahockey.org/Registration/Default.asp?n=27583&org=lahockey.org

Registration is open

Please read for clarification, and if it is still unclear please ask.

ATOMS

Atom Registration for Birth Year 2013 and later: First time player ages 7 and under may register free for the first half of the season, Phase IReturning Atoms of any age will need to pay for registration. If your player is Birth Year 2013 and has played before they will be a Mite, and should register under Recreational House or NMHRL (see below).

Recreational House and NMRHL

Recreational House: The Mite (8U-Birth Year 2011 and 2012), Squirt (10U-Birth Year 2009 and 2010), Peewee (12U-Birth Year 2007 and 2008), Bantam (14U-Birth Year 2005 and 2006), Midget (18U-Birth  Year 2001 and younger) levels offer a “Recreational House Only” which requires no travel outside of Los Alamos.  All games and practices will be held in Los Alamos!  This option may appeal to those families who wish to limit their travel and time commitment, or those who are brand new to hockey and are looking for a way to test out the sport.

NMRHL: If your athlete wishes to play in games against other New Mexico recreational hockey teams (NMRHL), in addition to house league games, choose the Recreationad and House NMRHL option.  Most families will want to register for this option.  This will require you to travel to Sant Fe, Taos, Albuquerque and Rio Rancho to play games.

High School ages register for the highest level team on which they plan to play, see below for explainations on the differences between Midget Developmental or Varsity.

High School

High school aged athletes should register for the highest level team on which they plan to play, Midget Developmental (formerly known as JV) or Varsity. Players born in 2005 have many options, Bantam, Midget Developmental, or Varsity (if selected). Register that player for the highest level team on which they plan to play. If they would like to play with the Midget Developmental team they only need to sign up for that and they will be eligible to play at the Bantam level as well; the higher fee covers play at both levels. If they do not want to play with the Midget Developmental team then they will need to register for Bantams. The key is to register the player for the HIGHEST level team for which they will play games.

Please plan for at least one parent to attend this meeting as it will provide essential information for the season.

Renee

UPDATE ON RINK HELP GETTING ICE DOWN

LAHA Members,

Below is a rink update from Brandon Tuning, who is Mike Lipiatt's assistant who will be supervising all the effort to get the ice down.  Please reply directly to Brandon, Tuning, Brendan <brendan.tuning@lacnm.us>

I will be Buffing the boards next week Oct 15th-18th . 9am-4pm

Power Washing will take place the week of Oct 21st-24th. 9am-4pm

Monday Oct 28th we will be putting down our fist layers of ice and then painting the sheet White, and sealing it as much as possible to protect it from the following days sun load.

Tuesday Oct 29th we will fix any white paint loss, after that we will  start marking out and painting all the hockey lines. Once all the lines are in and sealed, we will start building ice.

As Mike said we will need help from 6pm-10pm both nights, on Tuesday the 29th we can also use some help starting at 3pm as well.

We will begin Ice building starting Tuesday the 29th as soon as we are done painting, Ice building will be an overnight process until the ice sheet is thick enough for us to start grooming it with the Zam, the time frame for this all depends on the weather.  Over nights typically are two shifts of two people. First shit starts at 6pm to 12am, second shift runs from 12am to 6am.

Volunteer Requirements

Volunteer Requirements

LAHA Adult Volunteer registration is open and ready for the 2019-2020 season- volunteers must register- it's free.

USAH requires volunteers to have a background screening as well as SafeSport Training (takes about 2 hrs.) prior to any volunteer activity.

These are mandatory and are good for two years. If you completed a SafeSport training two years ago, then you only need to complete the refresher course this year (not as long as initial training).

If you are someone who falls within the listed positions below, please complete these items ASAP.

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE POST- there are links and instructions you must follow.

Per the USA Hockey Safe Sport Program Handbook those who need to be screened include:

1. Members of the LAHA Board of Directors

2. Local program administrators

3. Coaches

4. Team managers

5. Officials (over 18)

6. Locker room monitors

7. Travel chaperones

8. Anyone with regular, routine or frequent access to youth participants

9.  NEW THIS YEAR--the requirement that players born in 2002 will be required to complete Safesport

We may require that additional persons be screened.

BACKGROUND SCREENING:

Please check to see if your name appears on http://www.newmexicohockey.org/page/show/829216-good-to-go the "Good To Go" list first.

Screenings are good for 2 years, and you may have been cleared for this season already from a previous screening. Only proceed if your name doesn't appear on the list or if it is in RED.

Screenings cost a considerable amount of money, please only do them every two years.

If your name doesn't appear, please proceed to the link below, this part is very quick.

The website is: https://loeaha.volunteerportal.net/    password: hockeyiscool

Please remember, the background screenings can take 2 - 4 business days, and then have to be manually entered on the LOEAHA site. Therefore, should you not see your name on the list after 4 days, please email me directly before running another unnecessary screening.

SAFESPORT TRAINING:

This part takes a couple of hours, but is required.

First, you must register as coach, referee, or volunteer on the USAH website, a membership number is required for the training. https://www.usahockeyregistration.com/login_input.action

Once registration has been completed, then please proceed to the SafeSport training page.

http://www.usahockey.com/safesporttraining

Please keep a copy of your training certificate for your records.
